In this session we discuss why the comment form is not showing up on a WordPress Blog page and show how to use the “More” tag to split the posts up so that they go to the actual post page where comments can be made.

Member: On my Blog page with just a custom WordPress theme.
Rick: Uhuh.
Member: I cannot see the box where I want people to make comments.
Rick: Can you give me the URL?

Rick: w-r-i-g-h-t?

Rick: Okay and is this your Blog page here? No, it’s not.
Member: On the News
Rick: News. Okay and so your
Member: So it just runs into the next Blog there’s no place to write a comment.
Rick: Right. So okay I now understand what your question is and that’s typical of WordPress. What you might consider doing is using the More tag to split your posts up so that they go to the actual post page to make their comment.
Member: Okay.
Rick: Because at the actual Posts page the comment is down here.
Member: Correct.
Rick: Right and so here’s how you do that it’s actually really, it’s dead simple. You simply go to one of your posts or you go to your post and this would work if there were images in it and that kind of stuff too.
Member: Yes.
Rick: And this button right here, if you put your cursor in there and you hit that button right there, that is the More tag and in your theme what will happen is only this much of the post will show on the Blog page and then there will be a link that says Read More.
Member: Great.
Rick: And that can be customized although if you’re going to customize it you have to customize.. yeah, okay there’s the More tag and actually now, I have to refresh my memory on how to customize that but in any case, what happens is that the default WordPress behavior is to say Read More when it finds that on your Home page.
Member: Great.
Rick: Okay? So…
Member: And then it’ll go to the actual post?
Rick: And they click on that Read More and it’ll take them to the full post.
Member: And then that reply thing shows up. I love it.
Rick: That’s exactly right. Yeap.
